About the Detention Center

The Cherokee County Detention Center runs on a direct-supervision model. There are no bars or cells in the traditional sense. Major Stephen Anderson oversees the facility. Captain Sherille Wells serves as second in command. All staff attend the SC Criminal Justice Academy for Basic Jail Training after they are hired.

A central control room runs all doors, lights, climate, phones, and over 50 cameras. The facility holds mostly pre-trial inmates and those sentenced to 90 days or less. The average daily count is about 150 to 200 inmates. The sheriff is elected to a four-year term and oversees the center.

The facility also has a LiveScan Device for electronic fingerprints. Results come back in 15 minutes to one hour. This speeds up the booking process and helps confirm identities fast.

Note: Cherokee County's detention center has a strict no-luxury policy with no TVs, radios, weight equipment, or recreational sports.
